This is, by far, one of the most unique murals I have done. The customer had an upside down bowl (or a Dome) ceiling in their master bedroom. He approached me to airbrush a space scene, or planetarium view on the ceiling so he could enjoy it while he was in bed. I airbrushed the mural sourced from a small picture he provided (it is visible in one of the pictures below). All of the mapping was freehand because there were no flat surfaces. The electrical box that was to hold a ceiling fan was at the pinnacle of the dome. It is also visible in some of these pictures. There is a real spacious feeling (all pun intended) to this mural because of the inner bowl surface and the subject matter.
Dome Ceiling
The dome rested on a soffit that runs the circumference of the room-clearly visible in the picture below. The diameter of the bowl is about 14’ at its widest point.
The dome feel is palpable in this side view. The small reference picture is visible as well. Not a whole lot to work from.
Here is a view of the other side of the hemisphere. This client loved purple and teal.... galaxies and supernova’s galore in the preferred colors. The ceiling fan electrical box here is clearly visible.
Finally, a star detail to show more of the wide range of galactic selections that were at the clients fingertips.
